We had a very fine breakfast this morning in the main dining room of the hotel, then walked downtown where we boarded a horse drawn wagon with 13 or so other passangers and took the official Island tour. We had two different drivers, one from Bulgaria and the other from Romania. It turns out that there are hundreds of International students who come to the United States to work during the summer, to help pay for their schooling back home. The Bulgarian was a young man, the Romanian, a young woman. Both were very knowledgable about the Island and its history and features, and both spoke excellent English and were funny and interesting to be with, which made the rather overcast and cold morning so much more enjoyable.
While Linda returned to the hotel to rest an aching knee, I did a walk along the shoreline road and took more pictures. What a beautiful place! Have I said that once or twice already? I happened to be on the dock when a large cargo ship came through the Mackinac Straits, headed for some desitnation in Lake Michigan from Lake Huron or beyond, apparently.
Even though it is Monday the Island is still alive with tourists, many riding rented bicycles, which are available everywhere.
