Day 9, departure from Mackinac Island and drive down US 23 along the western shore of Lake Huron

We had to make a hurried departure Wednesday morning because of a medical appt for Linda on the main land at 1230 pm. We received wonderful help and assistance by the hotel manager and her staff. They took care of our luggage and ordered up a horse drawn wheel chair accessable taxi for us and charged it all to the hotel, both for our late night ride to the emergency room and for our departure Wed. This is the only picture I took as we departed the Island, looking across the water one last time at the Grand Hotel ... what a place!

This was taken as we drove south on I-75 from St. Ignace, over the beautiful Mackinac Bridge on our way to Cheboygan for Linda's medical appointment at hospital there. This bridge is 4 miles long. It is said to be the longest suspension bridge over fresh water in the world! It is a wonderous piece of engineering, completed in the 1950s. Before the bridge was in place they say that motorists would be in long lines on both sides for miles and miles, waiting to get aboard the ferry.

This was taken during our brief stop at a roadside picnic table, eating our box lunch prepared for us by the Grand Hotel at the time of our departure on Wed.

This gentleman, "Rick" by name, stopped on his bicycle ride to speak to us when he noticed our lic plate read Arizona. He is a long-time resident of Michigan, having retired from GM. He told us a lot about the area. A very pleasant, friendly fellow. He let me take his picture.

It's nice to see Mom in the background and not in the hospital. The Lord does hear and answer prayers. Please hurry back to Mesa we want to see you both so bad.
